Make Art MKE

The Mount Mary Starving Artists' Show was a staple in the Milwaukee art community for over 50 years and like many others, Mike Bate, the owner of local business Lit MKE, didn't want to see it go.

Seeing an opportunity to step in and revive this long lasting art fair, Mike's vision for Make Art MKE is all about honoring the history of the Mount Mary event, while pulling in local makers of handmade goods, and a focus on supporting the surrounding neighborhood.  A portion of proceeds from the 2023 art fair will go to revitalizing Cooper Park.

re:Craft and Relic is passionate about connecting small businesses to the community around them and is excited to help breathe new life to this art fair.

As a new event with new, outside organizers, we want to carry on the spirit of the Starving Artists Show and fill the Mount Mary grounds once again with artists, makers and creatives, supporting one generation while inspiring the next.

Madison Art Fair Off the Square

The two day event is a showcase for about 130 exclusively Wisconsin artists and craftspeople. The show features ceramics, art glass, painting, fiber, sculpture, jewelry, graphics, paper-making, photography, wood, and more.

The 44th Annual Art Fair Off the Square will be located on the 200 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd and on Olin Terrace Walkway leading up to the Monona Terrace Convention Center. Madison, Wisconsin

Saturday 9am-6pm and Sunday 10am-5pm

The 44th Annual Art Fair Off the Square is one of two juried fairs sponsored and produced by the Wisconsin Alliance of Artists and Craftspeople, Inc. (WAAC), a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation formed to promote and create contact between Wisconsin artists and craftspeople and the public. WAAC takes pride in having been created and operated by the artists themselves. Along with providing a market for exhibitors, we continue to educate the public about art and provide important one-to-one interaction between artist and buyer.

The Art Fair Off the Square runs concurrently with the Art Fair on the Square (not affiliated with WAAC). More than 200,000 people are expected to visit downtown Madison during this two-day celebration of visual art, which has become a highlight of the summer season.
